Grey Wolves Hockey Club > History > Home
The Grey Wolves Hockey Club was founded in September 1983 by Brad Busse and Jeff Vigil.
THE TEAM NAME
The Grey Wolves team name evolved in 1997, succeeding earlier versions including Bay Wolf, Chem-Dry, Flames and Cheers. Interestingly, the team was called Busse’s on the first schedule because we didn’t decide on a name until after the season started. The first team name was Cheers. Cheers was the local pub at Hampden and Monaco, made famous by patrons tossing bricks through TV screens at Howard Cossell during the Monday night football games. In 1986, the name was changed to the Flames after Cheers closed. Then in 1986, the team name was changed to Bay Wolf due to the efforts of John Muraglia to obtain a sponsorship from the Bay Wolf restaurant located in Cherry Creek. From 1993 to 1996 the team was named Chem-Dry as a result of sponsorship by Blair MacNeil’s company by the same name. Since 1997 the team name has been The Grey Wolves, partly in recognition that many of us had begun to show signs of that stately silver color in our hair.
